A Brief Roulette History
Mention the word Casino to people and most will unusually think of Roulette. How old is the game of Roulette, well no one has actually been able to put a date on when it first appeared. However it has been traced back to the time of the ancient Romans.

What is certain though is the fact that Roulette was first introduced to Paris, France in 1760. Who introduced it? That honor goes to a man by the name of Startine.

Startine actually worked as a Police Lieutenant and there were two versions of the game we know today. First there was the 'little' game which is now called 'Boule' and the 'big' version, which subsequently evolved to become the roulette game we are familiar with now.

Originally the game was played with two zeros. During the 1800's Francois Blanc. A co-manager (with his brother) of a famous German casino the "Bad Homberg Casino" Blanc coined the phrase 'Gentlemen place your bets' A phrase which even today is still used at Casinos.

It was during this period that he had a brilliant and powerful idea which soon proved to be a simple short-cut to success: Blanc simply canceled one of the two zeros from the roulette game, thus reducing the Bank's chances of winning by 50 percent.

Since 1841 the game of roulette has remained unchanged. Using a 56 centimeter wooden wheel with 37 numbers it has become one of the most popular of all casino games to play.
